What do you admire the most about your mum?
My Mum had no reference point in her own life on how to be a good Mum, so she made a conscious decision to be the best Mum she could be when she had kids. I have so much respect for the love she gave my brother & I, considering she didn’t have a lot to go on in her own childhood.
What is something about yourself you've learnt from being a mum?
I have learnt so much about myself since becoming a Mum, some good, some not so good... I have learnt that my life needed some perspective, and kids definitely give you that! I have learnt to be present in the moment, that quality time together is so important and that I thought I was busy before I had children, ha! I also now know that I don’t operate well without sleep, am a bit of a control freak (didn’t realise this before children) & thought I would naturally know all the answers when it came to raising kids, how very wrong I was!
How do you maintain a sense of self whilst having to juggle work/children/family?
I figured out very early on that I wasn’t cut out to be a stay-at-home Mum, I missed adult conversation, felt like I was losing myself and my skills and felt the monotony of my previous career (elite athlete) creeping back in. So I know that for me, I need to work to maintain my sanity, it makes me a better Mum, as the time I do spend with my kids I relish & enjoy.
Who's style do you love?
I love the effortless style of Cate Blanchett, cool, sophisticated but always ready to take a risk!
What is the one thing you would never be caught wearing?
I would never be caught wearing anything that underwear can’t be worn underneath!
Can you think of your most favourite thing you've ever worn? What was it?
My favourite item I’ve ever worn is my Wedding Dress! One day is not enough to don the spectacular Helen Manuell creation I was lucky enough to wear as I walked down the aisle, hope it can see the light of day again!
What is a trend you wish would disappear?
I wish the drop crotch, fisherman pants trend would disappear for anyone over the age of 4!
What is one thing that makes you feel fabulous when you have no time to get ready and are running out the door?
If I have absolutely no time to get ready I put my hair up in a bun on top of my head, fill in my eyebrows & apply mascara, at least I won’t scare anyone!!!
What is your favourite Rebecca Thompson Design?
There are too many Rebecca Thompson designs I love to pick a favourite but I guess longevity is a big point so the fact that I still wear my very first Rebecca Thompson Kaftan Dress means that it will always be one of my top picks.
How do you unwind?
I love reading homewares magazines to unwind & going to the movies is the ultimate indulgence.
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
We have just started binge watching ‘Billions’ on Stan, which is similar to our favourite series, Suits.
